Laser Eye Surgery

Imagine waking up and having Superman-like laser eyes. THINK: a world where you can shatter rocks with a single glance! Zap flies out of the air with a wink! Never have to reheat soup ever again, which would save hours in roof-of-the-microwave clean up time!

Unfortunately, we do not live in the DC Universe, we live in this boring old normal one. The closest thing we can get to sudden superpowers is regaining perfect vision thanks to a doctor, a laser, and a steady hand.

“Laser surgery offers freedom from spectacles and contact lenses,” says laser doctor and www.opticalexpress.co.uk professional eye man, Stephen Hannan. “It can allow patients the opportunity to enjoy things which would have been significantly more difficult beforehand,” he continues, presumably meaning ‘finding your way to the bathroom in the morning’.

There are two kinds of laser eye surgery, according to Stephen – cosmetic, which is just for people who hate having nose dimples where their glasses rest, and medical, which treat eye complaints such as astigmatism. Either way, it involves a laser getting shot into your eye. “It has a very quick healing time,” Stephen assures us. “The vast majority of patients the next day have a standard of uncorrected vision that is better than prior to the procedure.”

Perfect vision by this time tomorrow? Sign us up immediately. “It is important to research the technology and the experience of the clinic that will be undertaking the treatment,” woah-theres Stephen. “Patients should consider the technology available to the clinic they are choosing, as some providers use older laser technology which may not offer the best vision.”

But the procedure could have much more of an impact than simply allowing you to see the bottom of the pool when you go swimming – many doctors have undertaken the procedure, while professional sportspeople have had the non-invasive surgery to make them perform better at football, driving and…uh..darts. “Many patients will benefit in their profession, too,” says Stephen. Okay, so it’s no laser eye-superpower, but we’d only go a bit ‘King Midas’ if we had that anyway.
